Chitrey - Darjeeling

The story of Chitrey

NDTA-House

Chitre a small hilly village, like the artist's hand-painted picture --- here the artist himself is nature. The name of the village has been fulfilled with the touch of his magic brush. The path from Manevanjang through the quiet-secluded dense pine forest stops in front of a green valley. At first sight, the mind will be full of peace. Both the eyes and the mind will receive the calm-beauty of the image for a while. Reach the village on foot, where only 5 | 6 families live. And there is a monastery in the Chitre. The solitude here is so deep that even the sweet tingling sound of a small bell in a cow's throat in the distance will startle you. It seems that time has stopped here. If you want to get rid of the memories of the many turbulent moments of life and if you want to grab the fresh air in your soul to the fullest - you can spend a day or two here.

Walk up the hill and look at the village from a little distance --- the artist's painting will be clear. In the green valley, there are a few houses, monasteries, and Chorten (flags) flying in different colors. The faith of the local people is fulfilled when this Chorten (flags) is flown with good wishes. If you wish, you too can take it from Manebhanjang.

Sandakphu is 29 km from here. If you wish, you can reserve a car or trek. In that case, a permission letter has to be taken before, showing the illustrated identity card from Manebhanjang. You can also see all the peaks of Kanchenjunga from Tumling before Sandakphu.

Manevanjang is 85 km from Siliguri/ NJP, Chitre is 3 km from there. It is better to reserve a car from Siliguri/ NJP. If the car gets permission, then you will be able to go to the Chitre directly with that car. It is also possible to go in a shared car. It may not be possible to reach the Chitre on the same day as it is time-dependent. At present, it is not allowed to go up from Manebhanjang after two o'clock in the afternoon. In that case, I would like to give you secret advice from my personal experience, spend a night in the nearby village Khopidara, you will love that surely. This advice is also for those who reserve a car to enjoy the beauty of the mountainous roads of North Bengal and spend time in any place.
