Let's go to the picturesque travel destination of North Bengal- Mirik. Because of its awesome weather throughout the year and for its heavenly scenario, Mirik is one of the most popular places among the travellers.
North Bengal itself is the rendition of lustrous greenery. And you will find the same echoes in Mirik surrounded by the beautiful Tea-gardens. Acquiring the land of Thurbo Tea- garden, West Bengal government established this Town. By reserved/shared cars from NJP/Siliguri you can reach the very beautiful Mirik. It is only 56 kms. If you are in a reserved car, you can take a short break at small beautiful mountain-village Dudhia for breakfast. You can also stop at Tingling View Point to enjoy its mesmerizing scenario with some hot tea/coffee. The next and final stop will be Mirik after crossing Shaureni, a small market place. It will take about 2¹/² hours to reach the final destination.
The main attraction of Mirik is the Sumendu Lake. You can see here the mixture of human creativity and nature's. At One side there is a lovely flower garden made by humans and on the other side there is jungle of Pines. An eighty feet long foot-bridge over the lake, acts as a communicating medium between the two. Crossing the foot-bridge you can easily lost for a while in the jungles of Pine like Alice in the Wonderland. Or else strolling around the lake (almost 3¹/² k.m.) can be a good alternative at the backdrop of magnificent Kanchenjunga. You can have other options too to be entertained like boat-riding or pony-ride around the lake.
If you have time you can also visit some other places in the town. Like other hill-towns it has its own view-point from where you can see the vast green nature with all its abundance amidst the hills and the valleys and the tea-gardens. On the way, you will see Bokar Gompa. It is a place of Buddhism practice. The uninterrupted calmness of the Gompa will definitely transport you to a state of serenity and sanctity.
Main source of drinking water in Mirik is Rai Dhap. It is also a popular picnic spot. There is a popular goddess temple on a small mound near the lake.
You can also visit a beautiful offbeat destination near Mirik i.e. Bunkulung. To make eco tourism more popular, here is some lovely homestays. There is also cultivation centre to uplift the economical state of this place. It is a lovely mountain-village. You can have the opportunity to know the lifestyle and the culture of the locals too. Apart from this, near Don Bosco School you feel blessed on the feet of Jesus's statue in the Don Bosco Catholic Church. One much Informative Information is that Mirik produces a good quality of Orange. So basically in winter seeing that stooped orange trees at Sourenir, Mirik Basti and Murma, it is hard to resist yourself from not having one of that ripe Oranges. You can also visit Pashupati market, the border area of India and Nepal. It will take little bit time and you have to follow some rules and regulations here.
Already mentioned earlier the abundance of tea-gardens is there around the Mirik. Among them there are some popular tea- gardens too like Thurbo, Gopaldhara. The lustrous greenery of these tea- gardens will give wings to your mind and you will love to fly on those wings through the clouds to an unknown destination. When you see the ever smiling locals on their daily attire in the tea garden, that lively smile transfers an immense pleasure to a tired soul of a city dweller. To make this moment memorable you can also take some selfies with them. Those who feel more attached to the tea-gardens they can spend one or two days at Gopaldhara. You can have nice arrangements for fooding and lodging in the homestays here. But if you ask for my opinion, then I will say it is better to stay at Gopaldhara than Mirik ; because now-a-days Mirik is amidst the hustle and bustle of city life like Darjeeling. If you are willing to spend your holidays peacefully in between the serenity, then I will definitely recommend Gopaldhara Khopidara or Tarakoshi. In Mirik you will get lots of options for fooding and lodging in optional budgets also.
