Khopidara - Darjeeling

Untouched Mountain Village

NDTA-House

Is your mind burdened by the daily hustle and bustle of the city life and wants is to spend some time in a quiet, secluded mountain village, to strengthen itself, so that it can concentrate on work again. If want, let's visit Khopidara, a small hilly village in North Bengal. I can say for sure if you spend few days here, feel the place and if you are a partner of the unpretentious simple life of the people here, you will surely advise the people who are very close and familiar to you to visit the place.

Only a few families live in Khopidara, a small hilly village surrounded by greenery. Almost every house has a vegetable garden --- step by step in the mountains, the colorful compilation of mountain flowers, as well as various trees, which brings an extraordinary dimension to their ordinary life. Part of the Singalila National Park can also be seen from here. Go to the Shiva temple by an easy walk to enjoy the greenery with your eyes and mind. If you sit for some time, the mind is forced to calm down. If the sky is clear, you can see the queen of hill Darjeeling which is just on the opposite hill. If you go in the rainy season, you will see that sometimes you are captured by the clouds. Free movement of clouds around is visible there. Sometimes you may feel that you are moving over the cloud.

A few days, away from the noise, can be spent here in peace. You will not need a good morning message on your mobile to wake up in the morning. The chirping of various birds will wake you up in the morning. The sincerity of the hospitality to the guests in the homestays here will touch the heart. The quality and taste of the food are very good, as they are using vegetables mainly from their own organic kitchen garden.

However, if you wish, you can visit some more places from here. Such as-- Dashmile, Dhotre, Rimbik, Srikhola, Darjeeling. Once again, by reserving a car, showing illustrated identity card, and taking a permit, you can visit Chitre, Tumling, Sandakanfu on the same day. However, if you want to enjoy Kanchenjunga better by avoiding the hardships of the rocky path towards the end of the Sandakanfu journey, then spend a little more time in Tumling. The road is very smooth until Tumling. After Sandakphu, all the peaks of Kanchenjunga can be seen beautifully from Tumling if the sky is free from cloud.

Manevanjang is 85km. away from N.J.P./ Siliguri. Khopidara is a little way from there. You can reach here by reserving a car. You can also come in a shared car. But it is time-consuming. The shared car for Manevanjang is less from N.J.P./ Siliguri. In that case, you have to reach Sukhiyapokhari first and from there you can reach Manebhanjang. Once you reserve a car, you can spend some time at the place of your choice. And the description of the hilly path of North Bengal is superfluous.

If you reserved a car from N.J.P./ Siliguri, breakfast can be had at Dudhia, a small beautiful hilly village in the distance of 22 km from the start of the journey. You can also spend some time near the river that flows under the Iron Bridge at Dudhia. After a while, you can stop at Tingling View Point to quench your thirst for tea. It would be great when you see the spiral road of the hills has stopped to you through the tea garden. The next stop may be at Simana Basti. If the sky is clear, you will see mountain slopes far and wide. There will be one more wonderful feeling here when you see white dense clouds floating between two mountains, and you stand on top of them. After passing through Pashupati-Fatak (the entrance to Nepal) on the India-Nepal border, reach Manevanjang via Sukhiyapokhari. As the formalities of entering the Pashupati market at the border and the roaming at the marketplace is time-consuming, it is better to visit this place on the way back. Also, Manebhanjang can be reached from Tingling via Mirik Lake.

There is another way to reach Manevanjang from Siliguri, which is via Kurseong and Ghoom. First go to Rohini View Point (Rohini Tea-Garden), looking up from here will make the city of Kurseong look wonderful. Then cross Kurseong and go to Ghoom and see the highest railway station in the world. After crossing Lepchajagat, Sukhiyapokhari reached Manevanjang.
