A small hamlet in Darjeeling

NDTA-House

For those who are real nature lovers and always dream to roam with different unknown unseen places, Palmajua would be the best place for them which is covered by the cloud and surrounded by the forest and hill. In the Nepali language “PAL” means Tent and “MAJUA” means the place in between two mountains. Approximately one hundred and fifty people live here and a few homestays are there. Almost all families have their own agricultural fields and kitchen garden. Certainly, the test of fresh homemade organic food is really lovable.

Floating fog and cloud cross the mountain range and spiral road of the mountain and all of a sudden entry into a room or balcony which gives a feel like a haven. One can feel that he/ she might be caught by the fog and the cloud. Pin drop silent environment will suddenly change into a musical environment by the chirping song of the verity of the bird when the first light of the sun touches the mountain peak. The combination of the Sound of the soft floating mountain stream and the chirping song of the bird in the morning, make the environment amazing. Palmajua is the paradise of birds and also for the camera savvy bird lover as the variety of birds is found there. Adjacent to Singalila Nation Park, Palmajua is the green haven of a variety of tree-like Pine, Oak, Burch, Cedar (Dhupi), etc. Under the blue sky in the variety of green, another type of tree is also found, that is the different type of Bamboo tree. But it depends upon luck to see the Himalayan Red Panda in the forest of the Bamboo tree, which is the home of Panda’s. Pangolin is also seen here. One can also enjoy fishing at the nearby Shirikhola River.

The whole village can be roaming by walking. Lovely Kanchenzungha can be visible from the viewpoint if the sky is clear. In winter all almost all the time it is clearly visible. Daramdin of west Sikkim is also visible from there. On the way, a bunch of clouds will move together but suddenly they will vanish when the sun is raised. Swing of Chorten (worshiped flag) will give the feel of the soft cold breeze.

Tishchule can also be visited. Don’t mix up the name with the recently popular place Tincture. The last part of the road is trek road, one has to walk within the hilly-forest to reach Tishchule. If it is in the morning time, the golden color painted Kanchenzungha can be seen closely. As there is no locality in Tishchule, the quietness of the place is enjoyable.

Rambam hydropower project, Rimbik, and Shrikhola can also be visited by car. If there is a desire in the mind to trek, Sandakphu and Phalut can be trekked from here, though there is also multiple short trek rout is available.

Palmujua is 109 km from NJP/ Siliguri. It is advisable to reserve a car from NJP/ Siliguri to reach Palmajua, though the option for a shared vehicle with a break journey is also available. With a reserve vehicle, one can take a break to fulfill the thrust for tea or to enjoy the beauty of the hilly road. On the way to Palmajua, one can stop at Dudhia or Tingling Viewpoint to satisfy their thrust. Cross small hilly villages like Simana Basti, Pasupati-Fatak at India-Nepal Border, Sukhiapokhri, Manebhanjang, Khopidara, 10th Mile (Batasi), Dhotre to reach Palmajua at an altitude of 7250 feet. From Manebhanjang the road is very romantic, especially if it is in monsoon amazing of greenery and the playing of the game with the fog and the Sun will make one spellbound. It is more amazing if one can hear the chirping song of birds over the trees. Overall one to two days of staying at Palmajua will surely reverse the age to younger on body and mind.
