If you want to spend a day or two hummings with the murmur of a mountain river, let's go out for Tobakoshi in North Bengal. Tobakoshi can be reached by reserving a car from NJP / Siliguri, or by a shared car going to Pokhribang via Tobakoshi. However, as there are fewer vehicles on this route. The hilly roads of North Bengal are always enjoyable and if you reserve a car, you will get a taste of it. First, you can have breakfast at Dudhia, a small and beautiful hilly village. Then enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings from Tingling View Point to quench your thirst for tea. Then cross Mirik check post, after Saureni's small ganj. Tabakoshi is about 5 to 6 km from there.
On the way to Tabakoshi, looking at the tea garden on both sides, the mind and soul became fresh. Like a green carpet in the bosom of nature. Of course, tea-lovers can also increase their thirst for tea. The path descends through the tea gardens on the hillside to the banks of the Rangbong River. And the mountain river gurgled and welcomed its new guest. So if you want to spend the whole day in the company of the murmur with the river then stay at one of the homestays that are newly built on the banks of the river of your choice.
If you wish, you can step on the small and big rocks and go very close to the river. Immerse your leg in the river water and listen to the sweet music of Rangvang. If you want, dip into that cold water. All fatigue of body and mind will be removed in an instant. When you touch the water of the river, your body and mind will wake up with a cold shiver. But try bathing; there will be a unique comfort in the body-mind. Even though Rangbhong becomes a little more playful and reckless in the rainy season, she will let you play in her current. Even the children also can have a little fun because the depth is less. If you can enjoy the thrill with the sound of the stone and water by the floating river, I assure you your childhood excitement will wake up. If you want to calm down again, sit on a rock and immerse yourself in a silent conversation with the river. Standing in the water of the river with watching the surrounded lash green tea garden will match your mind with the green nature and definitely your soul become fresh green.
You don't have to suffer much in the winter cold because the altitude of Tabakoshi is not so high. Again in the summer weather is also very pleasant. The gentle-evil cool wind blends with the sound of the river flowing, creating a new melody and feel nature's own music.
The beauty of the place can be enjoyed in other ways as well. If you stay in a homestay a little higher, the coexistence of tea-gardens, pine forests, and far-flung mountains with the flowing river below will catch your eye.
If you wish, you can walk along the river and reach Tukre village. There is an iron bridge to cross the river. Hardly a few cars pass through in the whole day there. So there is a respite of solitude. Many took a dip in the artificial swimming pool near the bridge. However, from personal experience, bathing in the floating river is much better and healthier. Near the bridge, there is a magnificent white stone idol of Lord Shiva. A beautifully decorated park across the bridge is also another great place for kids to have fun.
If you go up a little further from Tukre village, you will find a beautiful small temple with the idol of Bishnu. The view from there is also breathtaking; on the distant horizon are mountains, near below the tea-gardens, Tukre village, and the river, in the middle a dense forest of pine-oak-juniper trees. Reach Pokhribang, another hilly village. The small market and the taxi stand are a little crowded. But you can go a little higher to get solitude. When it is evening, from where you can see the sunset that will be remembered forever.
Tabakoshi, which consists of many villages, is surrounded by a few tea gardens. Among them, Gopaldhara, Thurbo, Sangma are well-known names. A memorable picture will definitely be engraved in your mind when you see locals are warred their traditional dress with a bucket tied on their head and collecting tea-leaves. You will also remember the beautiful flowers and orchids there, as well as different types of birds and their chirping. Tabakoshi will be the perfect destination to get close to nature and mountain-rivers, the tea-garden, various flowers, and birds and to spend some precious time alone. Walking in the tea gardens and villages, you can actually get acquainted with the hard lifestyle of the hilly people but also with their simple living. The people and nature will obviously provoke love in your mind and it will bound to last forever.
For those who like tea and tea-garden a little more, they must visit Gopaldhara Tea Estate. Tabakoshi and Gopaldhara - Homestays in both places are very clean and healthy.
